Elton Olin Cowart of Banks, AL passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 at his residence. He was 64. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with Rev. John Douglas Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home one hour prior the service. He was born April 18, 1949 in Wauchula, FL. to Olin Cowart and Frances Crews Cowart. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in Okinawa. He started the Dixie Living Magazine 9 years ago. He was an author and wrote articles for the Dixie Living Magazine and has written a book. He loved gardening and growing vegetables; he was also a deer and hog hunter. He dearly loved his Lord. He was preceded in death by his father, Olin Cowart and a brother, Harvey Cowart. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna Dee Downing Cowart, Banks; 2 sons: Ronald Lamar (Ron) Cowart, Cocoa FL; and Brian Patrick Cowart, Troy; 2 grandsons: Alex Cowart, 22 years old, Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan; Ethan Marshall Daniels, 7 weeks old, Troy; mother; Frances Crews Stickle, Wauchula, FL; sister: Elizabeth Black, Bradenton, FL; brother: Harmon Cowart, Monticello, AK; 2 half brothers and lots of nieces and nephews. The family will accept flowers from Jeans Florist and Flowers by Harold in Union Springs.
